We know that the transition from school to adult life is an important and often challenging time. It’s when teenagers are beginning to think of themselves as adults and decide what path they want to take for their life.
This can also be a nervous time for the support network of young adults with a disability as they support their loved one in navigating the transition to work.
We know that providing support to this network as well as the young adult is essential to making sure moving into work is a positive transition for everyone involved.
We take the time to sit and listen to the young adult and their support network and carers to ensure a strong plan is developed to reach their employment goals. We also schedule regular progress reviews to make sure we’re meeting the targets in our plan.
Through the Youth Employment Assistance program, you will learn:
- Employability skills like punctuality, acceptable workplace behaviour, personal presentation and resume building skills and interview techniques.
- Travel Training includes learning what transport options are available to you, how to safely travel, license training and carpooling with workmates.
- Workplace skills like teamwork, the importance of communication, why there is Work, Health and Safety in the workplace and what it means to you and training like First Aid and White Card.
A large and important part of the Youth Employment Assistance program is supporting you through voluntary work experience. We’ll work with you to understand what your interests are and then work to find you a work placement with local employers. This is a great opportunity for you to try out some different jobs and decide what you like best, all while learning valuable skills.
